The Bodyguard - by Gilly Smith
A Pam Ayres style thank you. [2009]

It was at a Tai Chi workshop
a student “gave it large”,
as we all stood in a line
giving each other a massage.
You stood there tall and calm,
looking very grand.
Seeing that I was in trouble,
you turned and made your stand.
And when I tried to thank you,
with a skywards nervous blink.
You said that I was welcome,
and sealed it with a wink!
So as I pondered how to thank
my personal bodyguard,
I had a great epiphany
to write it in a card!
But sadly I’ve not seen you since
that strangely fateful day.
It seems that you’ve been busy,
or simply gone away.
I feel quite sad that you have gone,
and that it really is a shame.
because I thought that you’d get a kick,
out of a poem that’s quite lame!
*
So I’ll just have to pretend I sent you that card today,
and at the bottom of these words it would simply say;
Dear Bodyguard ,
I’m sorry that you’re now quite the recluse!,
because I’d thank you kindly.
Love
your crazy short masseuse!
