The Child Within - by Gilly Smith

A Poem taken from my book "Take 2 Asprin".  [2007]

The wild child in the world within
That rages silently crying.

Give me acceptance in the world without……
Without understanding  of me,
Without patience or time for me.

I just misbehave and don‘t pay attention!,
What grace should I be awarded!,
What social place have I earned !.

Give me that time piece that rules society,
So that I might take it apart and “fix it”,

Put it back together my way,
Without diagram or instruction.

 It will never tell the time again…..
…..Unless its too late.

For it will from this time onwards ;
Tell a story,
Paint a picture,
Write a sonnet,
Sing a song,
And take you on a wonderful journey of creation.

Yes I see the child within,
Looking at my slowly ageing body that is without,

Without the ability to constructively communicate,
To express these wonderful gifts I  have to give.

The child within looks at the laughter lines upon my face,
And whispers softly,
“Go on, grow old disgracefully, Society wont mind!”

“For I will never age!…….. I will forever grow!“.

“Free me!…….Let me out to play once more!
